Every now and again I stumble across an Edward Gorey illustration and find myself seeking more and more of his pen and ink illustrations depicting hapless children succumbing to terrible deaths, horrible creatures, and other odd oddities. I simply love Edward’s deadpan accounts of murder, disaster, and discreet depravity.
One of his more successful books, was “The Gashlycrumb Tinies” first published in 1963. In it, Gorey tells the tale of 26 children, each representing a letter of the alphabet, and their unfortunate deaths. I only wish there was one for Eilidh (my first name and it’s pronounced A-lee). Perhaps I need to take this into my own hands, so here is goes:
- E is for Eilidh infested with botflies.
